Q1- I’m not sure I can be “hypnotized”. Will Hypnobirthing work for me?
A1. Not only can you be in hypnosis easily but you have already experienced it in daily life. Hypnosis is just a state of focused attention, if you’ve ever watched a movie and been able to block out extraneous sound, or driven somewhere with no memory of all the details along the way, or day dreamed, you have in fact been in Hypnosis.
Hypnobirthing will work for you as long as you commit yourself to the practice of it
Q2. Is Hypnobirthing biased towards un medicated child birth?
A2. In a word yes. We believe that every woman having a normal pregnancy can plan for a natural delivery. Things don’t always go as planned, but for the most part, birth is a natural phenomena that occurs all around the world without medical intervention. HOWEVER, the real philosphy of hypnobirthing is “Your Birth, Your Way”- we support parents in making informed decisions about how they want to birth. The most important thing is that you feel you were part of the decision making process and had the best birth that you could. HypnoBirthing® can help you experience a happier, more relaxed pregnancy, will help with bonding with the baby, with lactation (should you chose to breastfeed) and with life after the birth.
Q3. I am having a planned epidural/C section. Is there any point in taking the Hypnobirthing class?
A3. Hypnobirthing classes teach nutrition, stress management and encourage advanced parental/child bonding. This can be of great help to you, regardless of the birth you choose to have. Additionally, hypnobirthing techniques can be utilized in C sections to keep yourself calm and relaxed.
Q4. I’ve HAD a baby before and it isn’t possible to have a pain free or relatively pain free birth. Is it?
A4. Hypnobirthing launched in the US is now practiced in 39 other countries across the world and consistently the feedback is that labours are shorter and less painful. Google Hypnobirth stories to see testimonials for youself or better yet, look at Hypnobirth videos on youtube-see what is possible!
Q5. Hypnobirthing classes are for Mum’s and Dad’s. What if my partner doesn’t want to come?
A5. Because Hypnobirthing encourages both parents to bond with the baby, we do encourage Dads to be attend and support their birth partners. However, if you or the Dad is unwilling or unable to attend classes, you may bring any one person who would be able to be there with you for the actual birth.
Q6. I’ve seen hypnosis for birth books and CD’s on the web, isn’t this just the same thing?
A6. HypnoBirthing® is a registered trademark, used only for the official HypnoBirthing® – Mongan Method. Anything else is NOT HypnoBirthing®
A CD or a book could help you to relax and may be of small benefit, but in order to experience the full benefits of HypnoBirthing® it is strongly recommended that you attend classes with an officially recognised HypnoBirthing® instructor. We do give you 2 CDs and a book as PART of the programme but these are only a small part of the programme – as you can imagine we cover a whole lot more than just listening to a CD and it is for this reason that HypnoBirthing is the longest established and most widely respected hypnosis for birth programme in the world.
A list of official practitioners can be obtained from here:

If a practitioner is not on this list, then they are NOT official HypnoBirthing® practitioners.
Q7. When should I start?
A7.Ideally you should start as soon as possible, often 28wks is the recommended start time, but you can start sooner or later. The sooner you start though, the longer you have to practice!
